Top 10 Innovative Israeli tech for COVID-19

Here is a list of Innovative Israeli companies who are contributing to the combat against the Corona virus pandemic.

SDG 3 (sub-target 3.3) aims to achieve by 2030 “the end of the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases”.

Here is a list of 10 Innovative Israeli startups and medical initiatives, who are contributing to the global fight against the 2020 Corona virus outbreak and its medical challenges:

1. Migal

Migal is the research team from the Galilee Research Institute developed vaccine for virus in poultry, claim it could be modified for use in humans within 3 months because of similar DNA structure to the one affecting humans.

Innovative Israeli makers group just hacked this Ambu bag into a basic life saving breathing machine. Based on design thinking, rapid prototyping and open code source mentality this team of 40 makers, engineers and physicians led by Dr. Alkahar build this new machine in just 5 days. They defined the bottleneck of hospitals in Israel: lack of ventilators in ICU units. So they transformed this manual resuscitator into a new breathing machine. It is expected that within a week to 10 days Israel will have 700+ new units for its growing Coronavirus patients. Cost per unit is just under 450$. Institutions from Italy England and Canada are now in touch for collaborative manufacturing. Totally free from any IP, sent with love from the Israeli team to heel anyone in need anywhere in the world.

A compact blood analyzer developed by this Israeli blood testing startup, supports the healthcare management of corona virus-infected patients. The device developed by Sight Diagnostics of Tel Aviv allows you to quickly perform blood tests and counts, which are part of the diagnostic protocol of any heat-related illness. Sight’s product is based on artificial intelligence and image processing; it is mobile and requires no prior knowledge for operation. It delivers results in just minutes instead of hours or days. These features make the device ideal for corona patients in isolation, and last week the Sheba Medical Center announced the adoption of the device to treat patients in isolation.

4. Kamada

Developing antibodies to the corona virus. The company is now collecting blood and plasma from patients in Israel who have recovered from Corona, and is undergoing a purification procedure that will provide an accurate concentration of antibodies for the treatment of advanced corona patients. In Kamada, they emphasize that this is not a vaccine for illness but an expensive and once-in-a-lifetime treatment for patients in serious condition. Kamada has successful experience in developing rabies and the affinity virus, and is working with health authorities to create an accelerated course of treatment for Corona.

The Israeli EarlySense system is installed in hospitals and nursing homes, allowing patients to monitor their patients’ medical condition without contact with their bodies. The systems have been approved by the FDA and the EU Health and Safety Standard (CE). The company’s non-contact sensing platform, which looks like a kitchen plank, is placed under the mattress and provides 100-minute, 24-hour monitoring. The system specializes in analyzing thoracic movements and divides them into breathing patterns that detect changes in the patient’s condition. Describing the need for contact with the patient’s body and providing remote alerts to the medical team make it ideal for preventing the spread of contagious diseases such as corona, and is already used by the isolation department at Sheba Medical Center.

Israeli-Canadian Radiology Company, specializes in visual analysis of medical images in artificial intelligence (AI). The company’s AI analyzes breast images to detect early signs of medical problems, including lung cancer. About two months ago in China, the company’s AI began to show new and unfamiliar findings that looked like small patches of patients’ health. Early on it became clear that the patch was a unique phenomenon for patients in Corona, but the particularly surprising finding was that the patch was also found in patients who did not show symptoms. This is in line with a study published in China that examined about a thousand corona patients, and found that CT tests indicated the presence of the virus in 48% of subjects who produced a negative result in the normal test.

The information obtained from Rad-Logic systems in China has helped the company adjust its AI to detect corona, and now offers another diagnostic avenue for the disease, which, contrary to common testing, can return results in seconds instead of hours. The test is feasible for existing CT devices in all hospitals in a fast and non-invasive way, and photography also helps medical teams prioritize the need for respiratory therapy. Corona detection systems are currently being used in China and Russia, and the company says they will soon be used in Europe and are in the process of expediting approval in the US.

7. BATM

Developed a rapid diagnostic kit that can detect Coronavirus infection from saliva samples within minutes.

8. Geneyx

The Israeli Geneyx company has developed a genetic data bank in the cloud, which is used by research bodies and universities to identify genetic risk factors for disease or resistance to it. A new study from the company will compare those who have been severely ill in Corona with those who have developed only mild symptoms to understand if certain genetic mutations are more or less susceptible to the virus. The study is currently participating in hospitals in Israel, China and Italy, and the company intends to partner with other hospitals that treat Corona patients. After collecting a sufficient number of samples, different groups of patients (eg, according to the severity of the symptoms) will be defined and the genome flooring will begin. The company intends to create a database that maps the degree of virus vulnerability to deal with the danger.

Using Tele-ICU powered by AI to combat the COVID-19 Epidemic. They developed an algorithm that collects information from ICU monitoring devices and alerts the medical team about deterioration in a patient’s condition. During this time, when hospitals are busy and medical staffs are forced to prioritize patient care, the system can help significantly. Clew’s system specializes in ICU predictive analytics, so while monitoring respiratory data it is capable of alerting a patient who is expected to collapse in 12–6 hours and allow staff to prepare for this. In addition, the system is able to monitor patients in remote care, and transfer the information to a central control room staffed by specialists who can instruct the end staff. The system is currently running a research phase in US hospitals that are facing the corona ICU challenges.

10. Soapy

Soapy offers the first ever AI-enhanced, IoT-connected, eco-friendly hygiene micro station, helping consumers to wash hands effectively according to standards set by the World Health Organization. It takes the exact optimal amount of water and soap per 20-second hand washing. A computer vision interface verifies that the hand washing was done properly. On request, the soap will now include a plant-derived substance proven to kill tobamo virus – which is more resistant than Corona virus.
